We are adding our Michigan Honeycrisp apples, prosciutto, and brie to our traditional grilled cheese and topping it off with hot honey for extra interest. Enjoy!
GRILLED CHEESE WITH CRISP HONEYCRISP APPLES, BRIE, PROSCIUTTO, AND HOT HONEY
INGREDIENTS: (Makes 2 sandwiches)
4 slices of sourdough bread
5 ounces brie cheese, thinly sliced
4 slices prosciutto
1 large Honeycrisp apple, thinly sliced
Butter for spreading on both sides of bread
1 tablespoon of hot honey (recipe below)
1 tablespoon olive oil
DIRECTIONS:
Step 1: Heat olive oil in a small skillet.
Step 2: Butter the outside of each slice of bread. Layer the brie, prosciutto, and apple slices. Drizzle with hot honey. Top with the other slice of bread.
Step 3: Place the sandwiches and butter side-down in the hot skillet. Cook 2-3 minutes on each side or until browned and cheese melts. Cut sandwiches in half and serve immediately.
HOMEMADE HOT HONEY:
INGREDIENTS:
1 cup pure honey
2 tsp red pepper flakes (chili flakes. can be used too)
1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
DIRECTION:
Step 1: Put honey and pepper flakes in a saucepan.
Step 2: Bring this to a simmer over medium heat, remove from heat and stir in apple cider vinegar.
Step 3: Cool and place in airtight glass containers for storage.
